Welcome to Alaska ATV info The 12-mile long Eklutna Lake Trail is open all seasons to a wide range of activities that include ATV use, horseback riding, bicycling, hiking, dog sledding, snowmachining, and skiing. The trail can be found just outside of Anchorage, in the Chugach State Park. Access is via the Eklutna Lake exit at mile 26 on the Glenn Highway. From the exit it is ten miles on up to Eklutna Lake. ![]() The trail is maintained by the Chugach District of the Alaska State Parks and follows an old road. The area has public use cabins, scenic views and campsites. Official Website: Eklutna Lake in Chugach State Park Map The Eklutna Lake Campground is a fee based campground with 50 campsites, water, toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. Stays are allowed for up to 15 consecutive nights. In addition to the main campground there are two free use remote campgrounds along the trail. Eklutna Alex Campground (mile 8.8), and Kanchee (porcupine in Athapaskan) (mile 11). Both include campsites, toilets, picnic table and fire ring. The Lakeside Trail has an estimated length of 13 miles one way. Following the lake for 8 miles, then angling off into the wilderness. While motorcycles are prohibited, ATVs are allowed on the trail, which has an average travel time of 50 minutes for ATV riders.
